What surprises me more is the fact that people live with so much double standard that it hardly appears out of place! We are ready to do anything in name of religion. Spend as much on this ground and become a miser when it comes to helping others even with a rupee!
I am not advocating that we encourage beggars on street but merely saying that we can support organisations that are doing some genuine work to help the society when we cannot spend our time doing it as a part of our social responsibility!
Coming back to our topic, when we look a little deeper into why people are ready to give money or time in one place but not another the answer is in your face.
Fear.
Religion, just name it, though does not talk about fear, the way it is inculcated into all of us at our subconscious level. We see the results but never know why we are doing it. The subtle thoughts in the mind take over and tell you that you better do "this" or "that" or else... whether it is going to hell (almost all major religions have this comparison) or the gods wrath will destroy you... same difference!
Very few Gurus have been able to break this barrier of religion and brought the message of spirituality to the masses.
For the ones who are struggling to understand how is religion not equal to spirituality you have a long way to go! But, here's a start. Spirituality is more about understanding oneself and being a good human being to others (humans, nature, animals etc.). Religion though might say the same thing it is still under the guise of fear!
So use your brain... feel from it, know what is right and become spiritual (more humane)! Don't stop the money bit, no one says being spiritual means giving away the comforts of life. Money does make it easier but the joy of sharing your life and belongingness (sic) with this world is a different feeling all together!
