So what's the Politics (Rajneeti) all about???

Before reading this, remember the epic of Mahabharat and analyse it. See if you can learn a few management lessons from it. If not... just google "Management lessons from Mahabharat" and you will see what I am talking about.

This list may not be comprehensive but is thought provoking enough to feed your mind!

So what's the Rajneeti all about then... ??? I vaguely remember a movie by the name Kalyug that was released in the 1980's. Was not sure so did a little googling again and zeroed in on 1981 by Shyam Benegal.

I am sure not making any sense at this point to you. Well connect all three and you have Prakash Jha's Rajneeti.

It's a story we all know and have grown up to it all our lives (at least my generation). B.R. Chopra did a brilliant job of embedding it in our systems. The sunday mornings 9-10 was the Mahabharat time. 15 minutes of Ads followed by the 40 mins of non stop epic action teaching us the politics of mythology and showing us how to this day we are still learning from it... not just the politics part but the management bit as well.

The cast has done it's job. The director made sure they did it! If Katrina had re-dubbed to make use of her forced stay in Mumbai (volcano and stuff), she did a good job. The accent is not as predominant has it has been in other movies. Barring a speech, there seems to a good lip sync.

I cannot take names (being lazy) of all the cast but can only tell, Prakash knew what he wanted each character to do and ensured they delivered. Most of the actors are refined players of the industry and have met the bar set by him.

The music score by Pritam is just right. It set the mood going and makes you feel part of the happenings on the screen. To the point you have have goose bumps when the director wants it!

A big 4 on 5 for the movie. As always things can still be better. If the love making scenes were cut, they were not cut enough as it did not add to the story. Just to make sure that the audience knows that the couples "did it" and hence the ladies are pregnant... the director needs to show a little more faith in the intelligence of the audience. And yes, the violence towards the end could have been a little less. It felt like mindless killing.

But then, it's the writers wish and directors skill to present the movie in their taste. And now that it's all done all we can say is... An old old old wine, presented in a very fine bottle!
